Ghostbusters! The Red Balloon! For two evenings last fall the Westport Cultural Council and the Westport Recreation Department brought outdoor entertainment to the citizens of Westport.
On October 9th, residents brought their lawn chairs and blankets to sit on and gathered behind the Town Hall Annex. The WCC, in tandem with the Town of Westport Recreation Department was able to try out their new 12′ X 20′ (purchased with a grant from the Helen E. Ellis Foundation) movie screen to show some Merrie Melodies cartoons and the Red Balloon for their debut Outdoor Movie Night family film screening! With the moon rising and the frogs chirping, it was a lovely evening.
On October 23rd, an outdoor screening of the 1984 film Ghostbusters allowed everyone with cabin fever to gather (safely during the pandemic) to celebrate Halloween. Audience members set up chairs, brought snacks and some even dressed up. One viewer came as the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man, another youngster as a Ghostbuster complete with Proton Pack to capture any ghosts. The action was enhanced by the rising moon in the background and professional sound by one of the members of Ornament.
The collaboration between the WCC and the WRD will resume on June 19, 2021. Scheduled so far are 5 films which will be presented on Saturday evenings at sundown to the public. Entry is pay what you wish.
